  5. “I Let the Dogs Out-what About It?”

Seen On A Tee-Shirt

Lately, I have seen soooo many Tee-Shirts with hilarious sayings that I have decided to share. What brought this on? Well, you may ask. This morning my husband and I started to look through one of those catalogues that come in the mail and they had a Tee-Shirt section that had us both in stitches. OK, so we were pretty hard up for a laugh-and who isn’t these days- but honestly, I will share a couple of them and then ask YOU to also share those you think are funny and we will see where we go with this. Thanks in advance for sharing.

Some days you just……

Yes, there are days. There are days when you just can’t make it to the gym. There are days when no one phones you and you don’t phone anyone. No emails! Maybe a text but you lost it? Someone on Facebook has unfriended you. It is raining and I mean raining hard! Okay, we have all had those days and in these times, we are going to have perhaps many more of them. Don’t let this happen. I have this list posted on my bathroom mirror and I am sharing it with YOU.

  1. Do (Make up your own-I did) an exercise routine. I do 5 minutes every morning. It doesn’t seem like much, but it starts my day.
  2. Drink a glass of water then have coffee.
  3. Get dressed and eat something for breakfast-something with protein.
  4. Do a 10 minute house tidy and a 10 minute yard job. If the weather is just too awful, do that job in the garage and don’t tell me you don’t have 10 minutes of garage stuff to do.
  5. Walk-even if you walk around your house.
  6. Get/read a newspaper
  7. Work on something-your hobby, Facebook, your email etc.
  8. Make yourself call someone!!
  9. Keep happy music going
  10. Keep your house well lit-windows open if possible, curtains open, etc.

Yes, this is simple, but it works for me. Please give it a try and let me know in the comment section of this blog.

Just Do It!

This is the moto of some athletic shoe company whose name escapes me at the moment but I am using it anyway. We are currently confined to some degree or another depending on where we live. We are unable to live our lives as we would chose. I an going out when safe, having people in when safe, and wearing a mask when I go out.

I am also not giving in to all of this. I am better than that and so are you. My current way to stay sort of sane is to go outside and walk as much as I can, go to my gym while it is still open, do what I can at church, and get a hobby. Why don’t you do that too? Think of something you may have always wanted to do and Just Do It.

List of Lame Suggestions

  1. Jigsaw puzzles
  2. Reading
  3. Knit, crochet, sew, embroider etc.
  4. Make jewelry
  5. Do a blog-Hmmm, sounds like a good idea to me!
  6. Cook
  7. Volunteer
  8. Write letters (This is actually great fun and yes, people actually write you back!
  9. Call someone
  10. Re-do your house-clean your house . Yes, again!

Optimism!

Winter is nearly upon us. For me winter and the cold weather and bare trees can be a severe downer. I think this winter in particular can get to us if we let that happen. So, the usual suggestions do not apply obviously. We are not going to gather with friends or go to the movies. We are not going to go out for lunch and a big fun, shop. We can’t even go for a walk on many chilly or rainy days.

What will we do to keep our chins up and move forward? Well, I am not going to sit in front of the TV. I am better than that. OK, maybe not much better, but some. I love to read. Get some books on line or for your kindle. I know this can add up to $$$ so maybe trade books with a friend or neighbor or go to the library if yours is open. Our library will now let you check out books on line and pick up at a window. Pretty cool.

I have done at least three house deep cleans just for something to do, but I am now to the rearranging decor yet again. Believe it or not, I kind of enjoy that. Also, Christmas is coming so maybe go up to the attic or down to the basement and check out your stuff. I did this with my grandson and he loved it. We spent a whole afternoon thinking about where things might go. He wanted to do it again this weekend so yes!! of course.

I always carry a bag in my car in case I meet a homeless woman. Don’t sound surprised. It happens to me about twice a month because my husband and I volunteer at a thrift shop in a marginal neighborhood. Why don’t you make up a couple of bags to have in your car or make up some bags to take to your local homeless shelter. I can promise you they are open for business.

Perhaps my biggest hope for these times to come is that I am able to keep optimistic. Attitude is of huge importance. No matter what your politics or your current situation, there is something to be grateful for. Try to find it and expand on what you are feeling in the gratitude section of your daily life.

Good Days

The only difference between a good day and a bad day is YOU! My daughter has a sign on her front door that says: “Today Is a Good Day For Having A Good Day.” Do your best to keep upbeat, as cheerful as you can be to others, and open to good suggestions. Your Good Day can easily become a good day for anybody else you come into contact with!!

Mindfulness

There seems lately to be a lot written about the term “Mindfulness.” I have read several pieces in Yoga journals, Prevention Magazine and even in Better Homes and Gardens. It makes me feel really deeply happy to see so many meaningful and well written articles about a method of relaxation and well being development that works, is free, and can really create a healthier lifestyle. As you know, this BLOG is titled “Skating Uphill” and sub-titled Living a Healthy Lifestyle and living mindfully is such a big part of that.

Oh, so what does Mindful mean? Well, I will elaborate more on this in future statements, but for all purposes in general, the word Mindful simply means that one lives in their moment. Do not dwell on the past for better or for worse, and do not worry about the future. Breathe, center and be right where you are.

Food For Thought-No Calories!

I just read in a magazine that big changes are started with small thoughts. I am going to disagree with that. I think any changes are made with and start with small irritations. If something bothers you, you are apt to try to think of a way to change it. The more something bothers you the more apt you are to make bigger changes. Think about it. If something is really getting to you, what can you realistically do about it?
