I imagined that kids did not color anymore. I guess I thought they were on their phones all of the time-I mean even what I consider to be young children seemed to be on their phone or playing Minecraft day in and day out. Well, I was wrong. At least I was wrong for some children. I put several coloring books in the Little Free Library that I maintain in front of my house and the next day they were all gone.
That afternoon the doorbell rang and there were two sisters from up the block asking if I had any more coloring books. I will now stock coloring books on a regular basis. My faith in the fact that children like to have just plain fun has been completely restored!!
We also play in an old fort nest to a tree in the back yard just like we used to when I was a kid!
Thanks, everyone. I think that America is still alive and well. I love my old-fashioned neighborhood, and it seems that many others feel the same way about theirs.
Sure-My kiddos, aged 6 and 7 love to color and they also love to draw. Yes, I am the one with all of the chalk drawings on my driveway, and I encourage and love it!!
Great Job! Chalk drawings and a hop scotch outline RULE in the summer around here! BTW-I am making coloring folders for my Sunday School kids. Hope it goes over well!!
My neighbors on both sides have chalk drawings on their driveways. I think it is fabulous. It is a bit of Vintage Americana! What do you think?
Chalk drawings in concentric circles are a really fun and new way to play dodge ball. Around here we play with a very soft ball and no hard throwing is allowed. (No tears dodge ball!)
